My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during
this trying time. I gave you a book upon my return from the
Harvard Exec. program that you sent me to "Profiles in
Courage" -- you are a walking profile in courage - you
will come out on top. You are a friend and mentor to me and
each day that I work, I can truly say that I apply something
that I learned from being around you.

Stay with the positive attitude Jim and make the best of a
sour situation. My prayers are with you and your family. I'm
sure your strong family support will carry you a long way
through this 6 months of duty. Take Care !

Good luck Mr. Brown and I know you will take this time to
make something positive when you are able to get back to civilian
life. A friend.

Jim, ::I wish I had known your friends and supporters were
gathering at Coffee Call this morning. I would have been there
had I known. I am still pursuing suitable employment in the
communications/PR/marketing area. I will keep you posted.
You have LOTS of friends! As I told you once before, look
at the big picture. You will be out before you realize it,
and I intend to see that our paths cross again in the future.

I think that it was an injustice that they convicted you.
I hope that your 6 months goes by quickly for you. I also
am very interested in your time spent there. I did not know
that you had written a book. I plan to go out to the book
store and purchase one. Keep your head held high. It will
be over before you realize it. I admire your family alot.

Oct 16, 2002 at

I never thought much about you until recently. However I have
been impressed with the way that you have handled going to
prison. Mainly that you have come forth and done so in a very
oublic, manly and mature way. Your openness has had a tremendous
effect on myself as well as a lot of people. Ilike the fact
that you are not trying to hide behind your money or position.
Maybe there is a blessing for everyone here. Take Care.

still connot explain why the FBI policy would be to NOT record
statements. What does the FBI have to hide? Why wouldn't anyone
want evidence backed up? This policy is in their best interest

Several
years ago, I too was the victim of an ambitious US Attorney.
I appeared, and testified, before two Grand Juries and told
the truth. The prosecutor wanted to hear something different,
but, I spoke the truth. I was indicted as a "co-conspirator"
and quite frankly it made me understand the true meaning of
being depressed. After 4 years I was indicted by mail on a
Thursday. Quite frankly, I was initally releived that my nightmare
was coming to a head, when the following Saturday I read about
my indictment in the Times Picayune. The then First Assistant
US Attorney was predicting millions of dollars in fines and
years of prison. I am somewhat visible in New Orleans and
it truly had me down. Even though I knew I was innocent many
very negative things went through my mind. I spent the remainder
of that weekend in my pajamas wondering what my friends, neighbors,
co-workers and more importantly, my kids and wife were thinking.
On Monday I went to work and the phones were ringing off the
hook. The calls were SUPPORTIVE and by noon I went from being
depressed to being REALLY MAD. The thought that my government,
the government that I fought for in Viet-Nam, would indict
me simply to, in the opinion of my Attorney, to have what
I had already told 2 Grand Juries tainted because I was an
alledged "co-conspirator." My Attorney correctly
felt that IF the Government really beleived that I was lying,
they would have indicted me for THAT. The First Assistant
simply wanted to "hedge his bet." After much discussion,
the 6 felony counts that were filed against me were dismissed
and the person they wanted me to lie about had his charges
reduced to one misdemeanor with a slap on the wrist. I say
all this to simply say. PLEASE hang in. Don't let the BASTARDS
wear you down. You have much more support than THEY realize.
Oct
31, 2002 at 18:33:25
I
too was unjustly tried and convicted of a crime. As a police
officer with an impeccable record previously, I was given
two years jail, eighteen months suspended for malfeasance
in office and theft of $129 in merchandise. I later found
out that an overzealous sergeant pushed the matter and actually
went fishing with the judge, Alvin Oser. No rights given.
No recusal from the judge. No evidence serial number. The
sergeant's partner testifying for me. The death of a second
attorney's wife during the appeal. On-and-on...

I write at times to each other during the week and his response
to one of my upset letters some time ago about other peoples
actions towards me woke me up one day because he spoke the
truth about how things work for me. I can only think that
his short response is also proper with respect to the Feds
and yourself....I quote him here: "God wants you to silence
stupid and ignorant people by doing right. Do I reeeeeealy
need to go into this?::::1 Peter 2:15 (Contemporary English
Version)::::Rev Gene"::::The people are the real judges

as
a journalist of sorts I have been writing about insurance
fraud for two decades. Your trial and the shenanigans it entailed
have afforded me many column inches. I rather get the feeling
that it has become mandatory to jail each succesive Insurance
Commissioner of Louisiana, but I don't understand why. Huey
long was right when he said " One of these days Louisiana
will get good government. I hope they're ready for it."
That day hasn't arrived. Good luck, and if ypu get the sentence
overturned, sue them for every penny they've got.::::

Commissioner, I LOVED your first cookbook. I think it would
be a great idea if you wrote a new cookbook with the prison
theme. I think it would be a hit! Marcelle Bienvenu had a
great idea with "Who's your mama, are you Catholic, and
can you make a roux?" Perhaps yours could be, "Who's
your lawyer, did you do it, and can you make prison stew?"
Best of luck and God Bless. You are right, this is so sad,
you must find humor sometimes.

This was the biggest forest trial I have ever heard of. It
reminds me of the witch hunts. Big deal if he lied to an FBI
Agent. Bill Clinton lied to all kinds of courts and never
did a day or was he convicted of anything.

I have enjoyed your column very much. However, lately it seems
like it has become an advertsiement for your cookbook and
recipes. It's been disappointing that this has turned into
a commercial. I would just like to say that I think that your
site would be a lot better if you would use it like you originally
wanted it to be used (to tell people how your constitutional
rights were violated) and not for another money making opportunity.
The references to your book sounds like old time Louisiana
politics. I hope that you will change back to what you originally
started.::::Thanks.

I
find your case, along with many others outragious. Instead
of trying to destroy our own people (Americans), the government
should be, and should have been, focused on the "Evil
Ones" trying to destroy our country and our freedom!
If "they" had, we wouldn't be in the shape we are
in today. It's a shame our tax money is wasted on destroying
our own elected officals! God bless you and keep you. ::Merry
Christmas.

Hi
Jim:::::It breaks my heart were you are on this day. My thoughts
are with you and I look forward to seeing you again in the
near future. Your daughter is looking well this morning on
TV, you must be very proud. As you know I see here often in
DC and think of you.::::Please keep up the sprit and faith.

Jim:
I completely agree that you were the victim, not the culprit,
in this case. I haven't always agreed with you about everything;
but I have always respected your ability, drive and integrity.
The way you have, and are, handling this current adversity
has only served to strengthen that respect. You are truly
a Class Act: one to be respected and emulated by us all. Please
know that nothing that has happened has lessened my affection
nor respect for you, both personally and professionally. I
am proud to call you "friend", and proud of my prior
associations with you: both at the law firm and at the Insurance
Department. Keep the faith, my friend. "This too shall
pass." May God bless you, and your family, and make these
trials into a good thing in your lives.

I'm
sure I am not the first to accuse you of being self-serving.
But I must give you kudos for making the most of your situation.
It doesn't hurt that you have the resources to make the most
of your situation. I am reminded of Morgan Freeman's line
in "The Shawshank Redemption": There isn't a guilty
man in the prison.::You are not the first person convicted
who believes themself to be innocent. Unfortunately, you are
a part of the Louisiana government, that speaks volumes of
your guilt alone. I would like to see you accept your circumstances
and then try to rebuild your life following those arduous
6 months. I'm sure you will have a better opportunity to do
so than the average "wrongly" convicted inmate.
Ask some of your fellow inmates what they have to look forward
to when they get out and you will see that your complaining
just makes you look like a whining spoiled child.

Commissioner:
My wife, my 2 children and I join every night to pray for
you! We love you and can't wait till home. I talked to [name
removed] and he and I would like to come up to visit you,
as long as it doesn't take away anytime from allowed for your
family to visit you. I just want to know that we think of
you and pray for you daily. Stay strong. We all know you were
treated totally unfair. Even people who were not your political
fans come up to me and say "what they did to Jim Brown"
is TOTALLY wrong. I agree. We feel so helpless...
